High Country’s Family Art and Craft Studios

People living in areas historically removed from city life established homesteads and sustained their families by producing arts and crafts from scratch, many of which still flourish today.

Paint Your Own Pottery

Created to provide fun and creative activities for both children and adults alike, Paint Your Own Pottery (PYOP) businesses offer an excellent way to spend an afternoon or date. Customers select pre-made pottery items before using various colors and designs to decorate it – once painted it will be fired in a kiln and can be ready for collection within approximately one week!

PYOP (paint your own pottery) has quickly become a beloved pastime among adults and children of all ages, drawing people of all artistic abilities together in shared artistic enjoyment. While painting pottery itself remains the focus of its popularity, other craft activities may also be offered at businesses, including clay-modelling classes or wood working programs – providing great ways to develop creativity while building social skills!

Some of these businesses cater to families and offer packages designed specifically for birthday parties. Others provide drop-in painting sessions at $8 studio fees for members; and yet others host pajama nights, summer art clubs or pet events!

Before opening a paint-your-own-pottery business, there are a number of key considerations. First and foremost is to outline your business goals; next comes researching your target market, developing an advertising campaign and crafting a marketing plan. Influencer partnerships could also help broaden your audience and boost revenue; finally you should set aside a budget to cover startup expenses such as buying pottery supplies and essential equipment.

Art World School

Art World School was established in 1997 to offer an innovative professional art curriculum. Students receive training in drawing, painting and 3D mediums such as clay. Classes are small sized so instructors can provide tailored lesson plans and feedback; homework help services and day camp programs are also provided.

The school offers various events for its students to showcase their work and collaborate, such as live drawing performances at Washington Square Mall or art classes offered in conjunction with Warner Bros. Additionally, annual art shows at Portland Art Museum take place each year; 2022 saw this school partner with Warner Bros to hold an art class to commemorate the release of FANTASTIC BEASTS: SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE.

In addition to offering various art classes, this school teaches its students about art history. Their art teachers are experienced and well-trained professionals that use innovative teaching methods so that each student learns at their own pace.

Portland Art Academy boasts multiple campuses throughout Portland and provides transportation for students attending nearby schools such as Findley Elementary, Bonny Slope Elementary, Sato Elementary, Springville Elementary, Forest Park Elementary and Beaverton High School. Additionally, after-school programs and summer camps for children to learn different arts have also been made available by this organization – this has even been highlighted in media publications like Oregonian and Tigard Times!

Artist Jessica Wright creates objects to be enjoyed for generations–whether that means the bowl your grandmother used to bake her famous cobbler in, your coffee mug that becomes part of your morning coffee ritual, or wine glasses used at your celebration of marriage. Her pieces draw upon Twila Two Bulls’ legacy – who worked in beads and textiles and even created a stole for his Lakota war veteran father! Her pieces can currently be seen at The Great Spirit and His Little Ones exhibition of Museum of Contemporary Native Arts as part of its ongoing Bringing the Past to Life series.

This show, featuring over 80 pieces from the museum’s collection of almost 500, is the most recent installment of this series. Molina Parker learned her craft from her mother while Reed Two Bulls painted three acrylic portraits featuring gender-ambiguous Native people with vivid color schemes.

Owl & Bee Clay Company

Kids of all ages are invited to put their creativity on display and create stunning sculptural and functional works of art during this 10-week clay session. Instructors will provide guidance in hand-building with earthenware clay before covering surface embellishment such as drawing and painting with colored glazes for surface embellishment – helping children express themselves uniquely! This course allows children to share their stories and express themselves uniquely through expression of thought through tangible artifacts created exclusively by them.

Michelle Bruns has over 15 years of experience working with clay. Starting by making gifts out of Sculpey clay for her friends and eventually expanding to become Bright Star Designs (selling into stores nationwide).
