Mount Buller MTB Trails

Mountain bike trails in alpine scenery offer stunning alpine beauty. Riders travel from snow gum woodlands to treeless alpine summits before returning through cool ferny glades and granite monoliths.

Buller village offers stunning alpine views from this short ride, along with access to several other cross-country loop starts and bike-friendly accommodation.

Downhill Trails

Mount Buller is one of Australia’s premier mountain biking destinations, boasting an exhilarating backcountry adventure vibe. Boasting an expansive network of cross-country trails, gravity descending trails and world-class downhill tracks – Mount Buller tops many bucket lists as a mountain bike destination. Recent upgrades to its ride experience and trail map have enhanced ride experiences and put Mount Buller back on the map!

With so many DH trails to choose from, it’s no secret that hardcore downhill riders take to the slopes in abundance. Trailscapes has recently enhanced some historic trails such as ABOM, International and Outlaw with extra width for grip and additional catch berms to provide additional challenge while maintaining their rugged character.

The XC trail network has also received an upgrade, designed by World Trail designer Glen Jacobs and including both wide, flowing single-track as well as challenging and technical sections (part of what makes Alpine mountain biking unique).

Copperhead, one of the XC trails’ signature attractions, is an Australian first. Comprised of 88 interchangeable parts and 102 linear metres of rideable surface, you can ride Copperhead using weight shifts or pumping to generate momentum and let gravity drive your speed around the course.

Cornhill and Clancy’s Run offers those seeking an extra challenge an exciting ride through a maze of twists and turns with breathtaking views over Victoria High Country, leading down into the village and ending at an inviting picnic table trailside for you to take it all in.

Delatite River Trail offers another fantastic way to appreciate the scenery. Shared by walkers, runners and snowshoe runners during winter and mountain bikers year-round; felled trees serve as bridges across rushing water – it provides the ideal opportunity for stretching legs after multiple laps on gravity trails.

Flow Trails

Mt Buller and Mt Stirling offer mountain bike riders a truly special alpine mountain biking destination, operating as ski resorts during winter for alpine skiing, before becoming world-class mountain biking playgrounds in summer (late November to late April). Their world-famous network of trails has recently undergone an intensive $1.3m refurbishment program which has significantly enhanced ride experiences while adding Mt Buller/Stirling back onto Australian riders’ bucket lists for ultimate mountain biking thrills and spills.

The revamped network offers trails suitable for all abilities. Flow trails provide an enjoyable ride, featuring rollers to pump through, big berms, and jumps reminiscent of NASCAR tracks – perfect for fast riders like NASCAR drivers! Two such trails include ABOM and Delatite River Trail which have recently received upgrades with numerous jumps and berms designed to get people moving faster than ever before.

ABOM is one of the most cherished trails at Buller, boasting beautifully shaped jumps that will send you flying while also offering some b-lines that allow riders to bypass some larger features. Meanwhile, Delatite River Trail follows the lower river back towards Mirimbah on both singletrack and old service roads; additionally there are plenty of cross-country and all-mountain routes where speed and fun coexist on hardtail bikes!

Gravity Trails

DH trails at Mt Buller are sure to please. Recently renovated with some trails re-designed to add even more thrills, these rides offer the ideal mix of sufferfest descents and clean berm rides serviced by shuttles for an easy journey back uphill into town.

ABOM and International trails are two star trails that offer modern gravity riders an extensive variety of line choices, complete with ample gripping surfaces and plenty of challenging gaps that will keep you on your toes.

Copperhead offers an exceptional rhythmic rollercoaster ride through the valleys, featuring large berms for added thrills. These trails fit more closely with Mt Buller’s alpine heritage rather than offering big-bore enduro riding typical of many other DH trails across Australia.

Delatite River Trail provides one of the most exciting trail features. Running along its swift waters, this path boasts numerous “bridges”, or felled trees spanning the river that you can cross on your bike to further enhance its fun and adventure.

Mt Buller offers plenty of flat and flowing XC trails that offer gentle exercise for everyone, like the Corn Hill Loop with Misty Twist and Clancy’s Run, or taking in Spook’s Lookout halfway up Medusa climb for spectacular views.

Mt Buller is one of Australia’s premier mountain biking destinations. A $1.3m refurbishment program has enhanced this iconic spot and put Buller firmly on MTBers’ wish lists across Australia.

Backcountry Trails

Mt Buller mountain bike trail network features an expansive network of cross country (XC), backcountry adventure, and high octane gravity descending trails that span all kinds of riding disciplines and experiences. Following major improvements over Winter, riders across Australia are including Mt Buller on their summer list of destinations.

With their recent facelift and emphasis on drainage improvement, trail crew have revived historic trails with a fresh facelift. The updated network provides a mix of flowy trails with some more technical tracks such as Outlaw challenging more advanced riders. Gang Gangs and Copperhead offer ideal beginner experiences while Outlaw offers more challenging technical terrain for more seasoned riders.

Epic and the Delatite River Trail have become increasingly popular over time. Epic, for example, takes hikers down through an alpine forest of felled trees serving as bridges over the Delatite River at a leisurely pace – perfect for taking in alpine scenery with more ease.

Backcountry enthusiasts can access Mt Stirling via the Medusa Trail, which offers stunning views of surrounding mountain ranges. A great way to break up their day and take a breather.

Mt Buller’s backcountry trails provide a range of trail loop options to meet every ability and fitness level, with one popular loop running from Cornhill village up to Misty Twist, Outlaw, and Clancy’s Run – an easy 2.6km circuit suitable for most people.

Mt Buller’s 40km IMBA Epic trail built this Winter is the crowning achievement in their trail network. Following ski runs through the backcountry of the resort and featuring both rocky and flowing singletrack, this ride boasts mind-blowing descents and variety in terrain for beginners as well as experienced riders.
