Take a Step Back in Time on a Mount Bogong Adventure

Step back in time with an authentic Australian experience on this Mount Bogong trek, taking in amazing landscapes, bush camps, and magnificent riding terrain while experiencing delicious Australian food and wine along the way.

Bogong Horseback Adventures was established by brothers Lin and Clay in 1986 at Spring Spur – their idyllic country home near Alpine National Park. Here they specialize in breeding and training Australian stock horses while providing exceptional visitor experiences based on their properties within Alpine National Park.

Packhorse Expeditions

Experienced guides lead multi-day trail riding excursions using pack animals to carry luggage. This trip provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and experience it far away from civilization, without being tied down by vehicles and travel arrangements. Traveling on horseback provides independence while remaining peaceful and relaxing.

Bogong’s pack horse expedition program starts each spring as the Victorian High Country emerges from winter’s grip and alpine life flourishes anew. These treks provide an authentic encounter with its landscape that has played such a critical role in its history – be it Aboriginal peoples, mountain cattlemen, gold seekers or bushrangers all having left their mark here. Today much of this territory remains unroaded; pack horses are an effective and traditional means to traverse it all.

Pack horses are remarkable creatures that have evolved to provide humans with reliable companions in wilderness environments. While on an expedition you become acquainted with your pack horse and learn their communication methods. Their ears, tail carriage, posture and other expressions all give away clues as to their emotions; experienced horsemen are skilled at reading these signals and understanding the state of mind of those they ride.
